Two scenes in the penalty area heated up tempers in the 1-1 draw in the derby

In the end, after the 1-1 draw in the Upper Austria derby in the Bundesliga, both coaches said they had given away points – an indication that the draw was fair.

“We were spot on. You really have to lead a lot higher,” said Rieds Christian Heinle after his team had been much more dangerous until shortly after the restart, but Oumar Sako’s own goal (42nd) was the only result. His opponent Dietmar Kühbauer, on the other hand, complained that after Sascha Horvath’s (66th) goal to make it 1-1 against stumbling Rieder, the knockout hit didn’t succeed. “We begged for ten minutes,” said Heinle honestly.

In the derby, which was fair under the direction of referee Sebastian Gishamer, it only got heated in the final phase. Ante Bajic ran away from the LASK defense, and goalkeeper Alexander Schlager deflected the ball with his fingertips on the hook (84th). Heinle loudly demanded a penalty – just like the athletes five minutes later: Luca Meisl’s header landed on Marcel Ziegl’s upstretched arm in the penalty area.

Video referee Alan Kijas controlled both scenes. At Bajic, he had to evaluate a possible offside beforehand. “We were told that the offside was too tight to resolve.” Kijas then decided on his own whether to take a penalty or not and told Gishamer over the radio.

When Ziegl’s handball, on the other hand, Gishamer looked at the monitor himself on the edge of the field. Heinle: “One thing bothers me: we have two penalty situations, one time the referee goes, one time he doesn’t. I demand that the referee take a look for himself.” However, he was more concerned that Bajic did not take the chance. “He saves the decisive goal for Hartberg,” he said with a wink.

“There is no clearer penalty”

For Kühbauer, both situations in the penalty area were clear: “I see it through LASK glasses, but Schlager really had the ball with his fingertips, we don’t have a clearer penalty: the hand wasn’t in a natural position.” There is no penalty if a player deflects the ball to his own arm with a part of his body. “But it wasn’t the same player.”

Even Heinle was almost expecting a penalty: “After the hand situations against us have already been interpreted in one way or another, you get a penalty.” Kühbauer took note that it still didn’t happen. “I don’t want to make it dramatic.” Midfielder Peter Michorl added the explanation: “The penalty could have been awarded, but we don’t depend on it. Because of the first half, we didn’t deserve the win.”

In this, LASK was “not as active as you have to be in a derby. We didn’t play the balls that we need. It’s typical that we scored Ried,” said Kühbauer. “From the 50th minute, the team I want to see was on the pitch. This second half is what I will measure them for in the future.”

entry and exit

At LASK there is a new signing: Because Alexander Schlager’s wife is expecting their first child, the captain’s use in the derby was questionable. “His wife and child were so nice that they took their time,” said Kühbauer with a smile. “You have to witness the birth of your first child. Unfortunately I didn’t make it – by half an hour.”

James Holland will probably be the first exit. The Australian, who celebrated his 33rd birthday yesterday and was suspended in the derby, is about to return to Austria. President Siegmund Gruber did not confirm the departure a year before the end of the contract: “If players leave us, we will announce it.”
