On Monday in Innsbruck against Tirol it’s all about getting into the play-off final (5 p.m.). As a reward, there will probably be a duel with European Cup winner Eintracht Frankfurt and coach Oliver Glasner in the summer.
The performance in the first win at the third attempt under coach Dietmar Kühbauer was encouraging until the break: Husein Balic converted the chances at 29 degrees ice cold (13th, 19th). Thomas Goiginger (33rd) made it 3-0.
The 3:1 (56th) came when Kühbauer and his team had put the overdrive. Tirol had already started the game with this in Altach. For a week now, coach Thomas Silberberger has been able to focus everything on the semi-finals – first place in the qualification group and thus home advantage was already certain before the last round. That’s why some top performers got a break. The promoted team plays at home on Thursday and away on the following Sunday against the fifth-placed team in the champions’ group for a place in the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
LASK does not have good memories with the Tivoli Stadium, two and a half weeks ago it was 0: 4 there. The debacle had consequences: trainer Andreas Wieland was dismissed, Kühbauer took over – and kept the European Cup chance.
Duel with Eintracht Frankfurt
A rumor on the edge of the game: LASK is said to have already reserved a date for a friendly game against European Cup winner Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer test plan. The Europa League winners are staying at the training camp in Upper Austria again this year. The talks should be very far. It would be the perfect test for later European Cup duels. (like/haba)
