The Juventus Turin women’s team released a photo with an overtly racist gesture. After heavy criticism, the club is now apologizing.
The Italian soccer club Juventus Turin has apologized for an obviously racist photo on the official Twitter account of its women’s team. In the picture, a player with a cone hat on her head makes a racist gesture, which resulted in many accusatory comments. The picture has since been deleted, but screenshots of the recording are still circulating.
Juve apologizes for the photo of the women’s team
“We sincerely apologize that our tweet, which shouldn’t cause controversy or have racist overtones, could have offended someone. Juventus has always been against racism and discrimination,” it said on Twitter.
Juve’s women’s team is currently in Barcelona just like the men’s team. The two Italian soccer teams will play against the FC Barcelona teams on Sunday.
