Merih Demiral is leaving Juventus Turin for the time being and joining Atalanta Bergamo on loan.
The Turkish international Merih Demiral has left his club Juventus Turin at least for the time being and will play for the Italian Champions League participant Atalanta Bergamo in the future. Both clubs confirmed the transfer on Friday.
Accordingly, it is initially a loan deal, but Bergamo has secured a purchase option for the 23-year-old defender. The clubs did not provide any information about the duration. In Bergamo Demiral plays alongside the German national player Robin Gosens.
Demiral at Juve recently only a supplementary player
Demiral has been a candidate for a change for several weeks, the EM participant did not get beyond the role of the supplementary player at Juve last season. With the renewed contract extension of Italy’s EM hero Giorgio Chiellini, nothing indicated that much would change in Demiral’s situation.
In the summer of 2019, Demiral moved from Sassuolo Calcio to the old lady for almost 20 million euros. Since then, he has played 32 competitive games for Juve, but missed the entire first half of 2020 due to a torn cruciate ligament.
