At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, a lot is different this time: Everything is under the sign of the pandemic. Strict hygiene and precautionary measures apply. Nevertheless, the athletes in the Olympic Village have a lot to offer: some of the people who spend their free time between competitions mainly share on Tiktok. Using the hashtag #OlympicVillage, they show what it looks like behind the scenes at the competitions.

The Spanish canoeist David Llorente tries her way through the Japanese menu and the American rugby player Ilona Maher (Mar) shows the complicated waste system in the “Olympic Dining Hall” where the athletes eat at record speed.

Bicycles are available for the athletes to get from A to B in the village – or they can simply take a self-driving bus, like these two British rowers.

Rugby player Cody Melphy leads his followers through the village practically at a sprint pace. The American shows, among other things, the fitness studio and the entertainment center, where the athletes can play table tennis, video games etc. or watching the competitions pass the time.

Olympians can meet in the Plaza, buy souvenirs in the fan shop, send letters or have their nails or hair done free of charge.

High diver Tom Daley spent the time between competitions doing his favorite hobby, knitting. The Briton now wants to auction his finished cardigan for charity.

The athletes also spend a lot of time in their rooms. Here are the notorious cardboard beds, which have already been thoroughly tested by some athletes. Two weeks after the games started, this Australian high diver’s bed no longer looks quite as stable. So it’s time for the athletes to return home with their medals.
