Second career for a world star? Ed Sheeran has received a place in the squad from the English club Ipswich Town and he is also allowed on the team photo.
The new player for the English third division club Ipswich Town with jersey number 17 is Ed Sheeran. The club announced on Friday. The 30-year-old singer is part of the official Blues squad and he will also be featured in the team photo for the upcoming season.
“That’s crazy or not? When Ipswich told me, I thought it was a joke, but I really like the idea,” Sheeran said on the club’s website. “I think it’s going to be a great season and I’m honored to be part of it,” he added.
Sheeran on ascent: “It won’t work if I play along”
Sheeran has been a big fan of the club since childhood and has been the shirt sponsor since last season. “I hope that giving me the jersey number is only symbolic. Because I want us to move up – and that won’t work if I play along,” laughed Sheeran.
Ipswich Town became English champions in 1962 and won the UEFA Cup in 1981. Most recently, the Blues qualified for the European Cup in 2002, before slowly descending into the third division.
