The wave of outrage after Annika Schleu’s appearance in the modern pentathlon at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo continues. The 31-year-old athlete and trainer Kim Raisner is exposed to massive hostility on social networks.
Annika Schleu deactivates Instagram account
As reported, the handling of the two with the drawn horse “Saint Boy” aroused severe criticism. The obviously overstrained and frightened animal should be encouraged to complete the course, among other things with blows, but refused.
Schleu and Raisner had to put up with allegations of cruelty to animals – but it didn’t stop there. A number of hate messages, insults and threats were received on Annika Schleu’s Instagram account, among other things. Now the Olympian took action and temporarily deactivated her channel.
“I already got bad comments afterwards,” said the 31-year-old of the DPA news agency. “Some words have been chosen where people are supposed to work for animal welfare and for living beings, but then speak to me or my relatives in a way where I say that is not ok, that goes far too far” said the Berliner. “I knew that there would be pictures around the world that weren’t going to be beautiful, but I wasn’t expecting some kind of shit storm or so much negative hatred.”
According to his own statement, Schleu continued to receive insulting messages even after deactivating her Instagram account, for example via her email address. “You can’t completely protect yourself from it. Of course it was hard to have to read it all.”
Insults are also punishable in Germany if they are made via social networks. The sentence ranges up to two years in prison.
