BVB fans have to be very strong there. While Borussia Dortmund is obviously still mourning Jürgen Klopp, the successful coach has long since found a new home. After narrowly missing out on the English championship and the unfortunate 1-0 draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, Liverpool FC fans welcomed their team at home like big winners. “Absolutely outstanding,” enthused Klopp.
The 54-year-old, who has been under contract with the traditional English club for seven years now, was standing in a red club shirt and turned-down cap on the top floor of an open-topped double-decker bus that was taking the LFC squad through the city in a real triumphal procession. The dream of a quadruple may have been dashed, but the fans still celebrated an outstanding season by winning the FA and League Cups, finishing runners-up and taking part in the Champions League final.
Jürgen Klopp: “Absolutely outstanding”
When asked about it, Klopp responded with enthusiasm. “At no club in the world – this world – would it happen that you lose a Champions League final the night before and people come here in this condition, in the mood they are in. Absolutely outstanding! That is the best club in the world. I don’t care what other people think.”
During the trip, the bus with Klopp and the Liverpool stars was partly in the air shimmering with red confetti snippets. “It’s the best sign you can get: you don’t have to win, you just have to give everything you have, throw everything on the pitch and the people of Liverpool love you,” Klopp said hoarsely. “It’s been an incredible season,” Klopp continued, concluding with a message to supporters: “I love you all! And I’m not drunk, not a bit, just emotional!”
