Messi-Aus at FC Barcelona: Gerard Pique blames Bartomeu

Lionel Messi will no longer play for FC Barcelona in the future. Gerard Pique wants to know the culprit.

FC Barcelona won their first test match of the post-Messi era 3-0 against Juventus Turin. After the game, Gerard Pique spoke about the departure of the long-time captain and blamed ex-president Josep Bartomeu for it.

“It’s a blow to our soul, it hurt us. It hurt Messi too. We’re losing the best player of all time. The management of the last few years has not been the best, it is falling on our feet now,” said Pique.

The central defender of the Catalans also looked ahead. “History shows that we will get back on our feet. The team has to adapt, we have a lot of talent.”

Pique on Messi exit: “It had to happen one day”

Pique was already very satisfied with the friendly win against Juve. Memphis Depay (3rd), Martin Braithwaite (57th) and Riqui Puig (90th + 2) scored the goals at the Joan Gamper Stadium on the Barca training ground.

“The departure of the best player in history is very hard and hurts, but one day it had to happen, life goes on and people want to go to the stadiums and today we gave them a spectacle,” said Pique.

On Sunday, August 15th, FC Barcelona will start the new LaLiga season against Real Sociedad (8 p.m. live on DAZN).
