A year ago, the man from the Innviertel set an Austrian record at the same place with 69.04 meters, which even catapulted him to the top of the annual world best list. This year the 30-year-old has prominent competition in Burgenland: With Christoph Harting, the Olympic champion from Rio 2016 is climbing into the throwing ring. However, the German is still missing an absolute top result this season. The system in Eisenstadt allows this. “Distances of more than 69 meters are only possible under the best conditions,” says Weißhaidinger, who won last week in St. Pölten with 65.98 meters. Coach Gregor Högler then put in a night shift to evaluate the biomechanical data of these throws. His summary: “Luki’s level in St. Pölten was really high. I would say the unfavorable wind cost us a good three meters. Under ideal conditions we would have been close to the Austrian record.”
After her strong performance in Nairobi (3rd in 52.13 seconds), 400-meter sprinter Susanne Walli will make her first appearance in Austria in Eisenstadt. With Johanna Plank (100-meter hurdles) and Leo Köhldorfer (400-meter hurdles), two other people from Linz are on the hunt for top times.
