“There were logical nerves before going out on the court, but it helped us a lot that we got along very well, and so much laughing outside loosened us up. We were able to have fun and it was a huge emotion to get in to play”, confessed Sabatini.

Sabatini starred in a brilliant career in which he won 27 titles in singles, the most important being the 1990 US Open, he also added 14 trophies in doubles, including Wimbledon in 1988, in partnership with the German Steffi Graf.

“The important thing is that everything worked very well, we made good points and we were able to have fun. The smash went well, the serve was not my forte during my career but it was not bad”, added Sabatini, while a group of Argentines waited impatiently for her to sign autographs and take out the modern “selfies” that did not exist in her time of tennis player, when he retired 26 years ago. Dulko, who debuted as a professional in 1999, when the best tennis player in Argentine history had been retired for three years, left tennis in 2012 with a career that included four singles titles and 17 doubles, where she was number one in the world along with to the Italian Flavia Pennetta, with high points such as the 2010 Masters and the 2011 Australian Open.

“Playing alongside Gaby is a dream for me, it was a beautiful feeling, this is all new for us, coming back to Paris was incredible,” said Dulko, who also commented that she remains active and trained hard for the Legends tournament that it is played in the second week of the French Grand Slam.

The competition in the women’s draw has 16 players divided into eight doubles teams in two groups of four each and with a round robin system. In other words, each couple will play three games in each zone until Friday and only the winning team of the group will advance to the final scheduled for next Saturday.

In Group A, in addition to Sabatini and Dulko, and their defeated Davenport and Mary Jo Fernández, are the French Tatiana Golovin and Nathalie Tauziat, and another couple made up of the Croatian Iva Majoli and the local Mary Pierce.

In Group B are the Italians Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone; the Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova together with the American Martina Navratilova; the American Chanda Rubin in a pair with the French Sandrine Testud and the Australian Rennae Stubbs together with the Bulgarian Magdalena Maleeva.
