Sport-MS Kleinmünchen won their 26th student league title

Sport-MS Linz/Kleinmünchen won the 47th Sparkasse student league state final at the Union Pettenbach sports facility against SMS Ried 2:1 (1:1).

Highly motivated teams, an enthusiastic audience and great performances formed the recipe for a successful football event. The teams presented themselves worthy of a state final and showed the individual class of their players, but were also perfectly positioned collectively. The NMS Pettenbach, which offered an impressive dance and trampoline show, was responsible for an exciting supporting program.

With early summer temperatures and a great atmosphere in the stands, Kleinmünchen found Amir Asani’s first chance in the 8th minute of the game. As a result, Linz increased the pressure, an Asani long-range shot bounced off the crossbar (19th). The 1-0 was inevitable in the 23rd minute, when Liam Ferguson successfully completed an attack down the left flank.

But Rieder didn’t give up and hit back just before the break (35′). Niklas Dötzlhofer hit the bar to make it 1-1. In the second half, too, a hot match developed at a high level of play. There were opportunities here and there. A nice attack from Linz on the left brought the decision. Liam Ferguson tied his brace. A Rieder defender couldn’t scrape his sharp shot off the line.

The Rieder team fought with great commitment until the end, but was no longer able to prevent SMS Kleinmünchen from winning the 26th Sparkasse student league state championship title. Due to the performance over the 70 minutes, the success for Marco Mittermayr’s Linz team was more than deserved.

The Sport-MS Linz/Kleinmünchen will represent Upper Austria at the Federal Championships from June 25th to 30th, 2022 in Salzburg.

BG/BRG Rohrbach won the match for third place 5:2 (2:1) against SMS Lambach. Match winner for the Mühlviertler was Mohamed Malleele with four direct hits.

Even after the difficult years of the Corona pandemic, 124 teams from Upper Austria with more than 1850 students took part in the traditional school competition.
