Racing started the tournament on the right foot: they triumphed over Huracán in the Cilindro

The goals of the match, played at the Presidente Perón stadium and refereed by Pablo Echavarría, were the work of Tomás Chancalay (9m ST) and Jonathan Gómez (44m ST).

The “Globo” was outnumbered for most of the match due to the expulsion of defender César Ibáñez after 40 minutes of the initial stage (double yellow).

Racing came out to play their possession and circulation game in search of spaces and Huracán put high pressure and intensity against them to recover and attack directly. That crossing of styles produced a rough and lackluster first time. So much so that after two minutes Echavarría showed the first yellow card, to Insúa, for a foul on Cóccaro when he escaped from the right.

That was, also, the first arrival, although Cristaldo’s center to the heart of the area was more insinuation than anything else.

When he played long instead of coming out from behind, Racing was able to jump the pressure of the visitor and in a burst of five minutes, over 20m, he generated two clear situations against Lucas Chaves. In both, Piovi was key with overflow and center from the left.

In the first Chancalay received, only for the far post, and shot wide; and in the second the Colombian Cardona deflected it just with his head and the ball crashed into the crossbar.

Huracán barely responded with a shot from Cristaldo, from outside the area, which went over the top.

Before the end of the stage, Dabove’s team was left with ten due to the expulsion of Ibáñez (double yellow), and the incident seemed to be key for the subsequent development of the match, because until then Racing had found it difficult to find spaces and numerical superiority could be resolved in the complement.

Indeed, after a frenetic start (it was Hurricane with Soto, Racing came back with a shot from Piovi that Chaves took out) and despite the fact that Dabove tried to rebuild the defense with the entry of Walter Pérez for Gauto, Fernando Gago’s team took advantage .

It was at 9m: Chancalay executed a free kick from the left (following a foul by Galván on Copetti that was yellow but could have been red), the ball flew without anyone touching it and went near the far post due to doubts or confusion of the visiting goalkeeper.

The goal did not particularly change the match, although little by little Racing settled into the lukewarmness of its rival: “Globo”, with one less, handled the ball but did not create any risk against “Chila” Gómez’s goal. And the “Academy” patiently waited for its moment, which came when the meeting was winding down.

At 44m Copetti held the ball in the area and accurately enabled the entered Gómez, who settled the story with a header. Shortly after came the final whistle for Echavarría. Racing was not the team of recent times but it won well and announces itself again as a candidate for the fight.

On the next day, the second, Racing will visit Godoy Cruz de Mendoza (Sunday 12 from 3:30 p.m.) and Huracán will receive Rosario Central (Friday from 9:30 p.m.).

Earlier, next Wednesday, the “Academy” will face Carlos Casares’s Argentino Agropecuario (First National), in Jujuy, for the 16th final of the Argentine Cup.
