FC Barcelona reportedly want to ask their captains for another pay cut. Sergio Busquets criticizes the communication.
FC Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has criticized the management of the Catalans around President Joan Laporta and complained that he only found out from the press that the club would like to cut the salaries of experienced players again or otherwise adjust them.
“I’ve heard a lot of things that have been said to me and when I come back from vacation I’ll see what they tell me,” Busquets said at a Spain national team press conference. “It would be nice if they told me themselves and I can’t find out anywhere. But I’m always willing to help.”
FC Barcelona: Captains around Busquets should step in again
Barca continue to struggle with financial problems and are currently unable to register any signings due to the Spanish league’s individual salary cap. Laporta had already announced that it would lower salary costs. Players who have recently signed new contracts are reportedly exempt, so captains around Busquets and Gerard Pique are expected to step in. They had already waived salary last year. Allegedly, they should be offered to stretch the salary over several years.
The 33-year-old Busquets does not want to rule out helping again – but denounces the club’s communication. “They didn’t tell us anything,” he said. “It’s part of the game. But I don’t think it’s the best decision to do it through the press. Face to face is better.” He doesn’t just want to help economically, “but with any kind of problem,” says Busquets.
