Business with right-wing extremists? Martin Hinteregger responds to allegations

The focal point is the “Hinti-Cup”, which takes place from June 16th to 19th in Martin Hinteregger’s home town of Sirnitz in Upper Carinthia. With the hobby football tournament, the 29-year-old would like to thank his companions and supporters. The supporting program features prominent DJ Ötzi and the Frankfurt rapper Vega.

This was previously organized by Hinti Event GmbH. “The GmbH was founded by three equal partners, each of whom brought in 12,000 euros: Martin Hinteregger, a restaurateur – and FPÖ man Heinrich Sickl,” wrote freelance journalist Michael Bonvalot in his blog:

According to Bonvalot, Sickl is a well-known face in the right-wing extremist scene. At 17 he was a member of the banned German neo-Nazi organization “Nationalist Front”. He is also considered a supporter of the Identitarian Movement.

Part of the supporting program of the Hinti Cup takes place at Albeck Castle. This belongs to the mother Elisabeth Sickl, the mother of Heinrich Sickl. She was FPÖ Minister for a few months in 2000.

Hinteregger: Didn’t know about the background

Hinteregger responded to the allegations on Thursday afternoon. “Any business relationship with the Sickl family will be terminated with immediate effect based on the current state of knowledge, and the ‘Hinti-Cup’ event will be examined as an alternative in order to clarify a further course of action,” the footballer published via his Instagram channel (see below).

“I have no knowledge of past or future activities on the part of the Sickl family, I just want to hold a football tournament and nothing more,” it said. For him it was obvious that Albeck Castle was suitable for the event. “In the last 35 years there have been countless concerts, exhibitions and theater performances by national and international artists at Albeck Castle,” he said.

In addition, Hinteregger emphasized that he has friends all over the world and is therefore clearly against any form of discrimination. That suits his club Eintracht Frankfurt, which positioned itself clearly against right-wing ideas decades ago. In the 1990s, supporters expressed their anti-racist stance by wearing a campaign shirt with the imprint “United Colors of Bembeltowen – Eintracht fans open to all colors”.
