The favorite prevailed in the final in Kaltern against Austria’s team, which last won the title in 2010, with a clear 4:1 (11:7, 11:6, 9:11, 11:7, 11:7). The red-white-red team, coached by former world-class attacker Martin Weiß, had their strongest phase in the second and at the beginning of the third set. The match seemed to tip over. But it wasn’t like that. “We have to acknowledge the opponent’s performance. Overall I’m satisfied with our tournament appearance,” said Weiß, whose team withstood the pressure in the semi-final against Switzerland (4-0) in the hot phases.
In any case, the EURO in South Tyrol was a successful warm-up for the prestigious World Games for non-Olympic sports, which will take place in Birmingham (USA) in July.
