Positioned in eighth place in the table, Naarn’s situation seemed quite comfortable in the fight to stay up in the Landesliga Ost. Appearances were deceptive: After the 0:7 against Viktoria Marchtrenk, coach Michael Aichinger’s team fell back five places in the final round – and unexpectedly had to be relegated to the district league. “We’re all done. A few weeks ago we wouldn’t have expected that we would have to be relegated to the national league after 32 years,” says Naarn’s deputy section head Markus Lugmayr-Lettner. The aim is to get promoted again: “It hurts a lot, but we will do everything we can to get promoted again next year.”
Miracle of St. Magdalene
On the other hand, the joy at St. Magdalena is huge. Because of the point win against Dietach, you could keep the league and don’t even have to go into relegation. “Many, if not all, had already written us off. It took a miracle, and we did that on Saturday. It’s a wonderful feeling and I’m very proud of this team,” says coach and sporting director Gerold Sturm, who is in had stepped in as a fireman in the past few weeks.
