The championship title in the OÖ-Liga should only be an intermediate step: The women of the LASK play two relegation games to get promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. The first step is to be taken against the Carinthian champions from Oberglan on Sunday (3 p.m.) in the Raiffeisen Arena in Pasching, on the following Saturday they go to Preding (Styria).
“We had an excellent season, now we really want to get into the 2nd Bundesliga with two wins,” said captain Katharina Mayr. The club sets the stage for the first step against Oberglan. “We’re playing the game like a men’s Bundesliga game,” said managing director Andreas Protil. “We expect 700 to 1000 spectators.” 200 loud fans attended the victory in the final of the Upper Austria Ladies Cup against Nebelberg (3:0). Mayr: “The support was excellent, it gives you goosebumps.”
Trainer Lisa Alzner was no longer part of the game. Her contract had previously been terminated. “Things didn’t go so well between the team and the coach,” explained Protil. In the relegation, the previous goalkeeper coach David Stemmer will set up on an interim basis. Oberglan lost the first relegation game at home 1:2 against Preding.
Academy for the girls
In the long term, the LASK women are to storm into the 1st Bundesliga, with Greiner AG providing support as a “leading partner”. “It is important to support women’s football in society and to position it on the same level as men’s football,” explained CEO Axel Kühner. The club takes this into account. In the summer, LASK expands its academy to include girls’ soccer.
With a 5:2 win in the small final against the Polgargymnasium Wien, SMS Lambach secured third place in the girls’ soccer league.
