As expected, Olympic participant Lemawork Ketema won the fourth Traunsee Hervis half marathon from Ebensee over 21.0975 kilometers to Gmunden, but clearly missed his personal goal, the mission 63 minutes. The 36-year-old with start number 1000 smashed the course record of 1:10:40 in 1:06:30 hours. Kenyan pacesetters Philemon Ombogo Kiriago and Kipkenei Melly Joel followed a respectable one second apart. The two gave way to the red-white-red figurehead in the “run into the sunset” in the hot finish.
Ketema collected a few points for the European Athletics Championships (August 15-21) in Munich, where the two-time state champion wants to run the marathon. “I would have liked to run faster, but it was still an experience,” Ketema said of the event, which attracted 1,467 running enthusiasts – more than ever before. Endris Seid (Gmundner Molkerei) finished fourth in 1:14:31. Among the women, the German Hannah Sassnink was in a class of her own in 1:28:21, the Austrian athlete Ellen Tuchscherer (1:32:46) took third place, compatriot Isabelle Guzi (1:36:01) was ahead of Anita Ahorner ( City Optik Gmunden, 1:36:16) Fourth.
In the Bridgestone pleasure run (11.5 kilometers), Leyla Reshed (Gmundner Molkerei, 43:20 minutes) and Florian Großauer (HSG Kaolinum/39:44 minutes) got the upper hand.
