Gschwandt in the national league for the first time in 57 years

It is a piece of football history that neo-division club Union Gschwandt wrote with the 1-1 relegation against Schwanenstadt. After the 2-0 win in the first leg, the Gschwandter are in the national league for the first time in the club’s 57-year history. Around 700 spectators carried the club to the biggest success in the club’s history.

“It’s hard to describe in words what our football section, especially our section head Michael Hintenaus and coach Ivica Sirocic, has achieved,” says chairman Michael Uhl.

Ivica Sirocic and Union Gschwandt also have a very special history: 22 years ago he was the first coach at the club. In 2016 he started his third coaching era at Gschwandt, which is now taking him to the state league.

Two worlds in the relegation

The relegation duels could not have been more different. FC Blau-Weiß Linz (2-0 against Bad Hall) was the only club in danger of relegation from the state league and district league that managed to stay up. All other five clubs – including Haibach despite the 4-0 win over Doppl/Hart – had to go down. Exactly the opposite happened in the duels of the 2nd class against the 1st class. Since the ATSV Schärding is after the 0-0 against Raab the only one of six clubs that rises.
