Series winner: “Feels crazy”: Alba celebrates basketball title

The third title in a row: Alba Berlin is currently the ultimate in German basketball. Manager Baldi is satisfied, the players first celebrate in the arena – and later on the way home.

The Audi Dome quickly became a party dome. While the basketball pros at FC Bayern Munich had long since left their home ground, the old and new champions from Alba Berlin celebrated their eleventh Bundesliga title with around 150 fans who had traveled with them.

Beer and water showers during the interviews, antiphony with the supporters and the anticipation of a long and boisterous night shaped the scenery in Munich, where the Albatrosses had previously been crowned champions for the third time in a row with a 96:81 victory.

Manager: With consistency and dominance

“It’s almost moving that we can be at the top three times in a row with our style. The title is fantastic, but to be there all the way to the end in the final also means great consistency. It’s very difficult in top-class sport,” said manager Marco Baldi, who explicitly referred to five finals in a row. This time Alba’s dominance was particularly impressive: 20 of the last 21 games of the season were won, the playoffs ended with 9-1 victories and the long-term rival from the south was clearly defeated 3-1 in the final.

“It was an incredible season. I’m incredibly happy that we made it. We showed a flawless reaction, »said national player Johannes Thiemann, who was voted the most valuable player in the final after a strong performance. However, the spontaneous celebration on the floor covered with golden confetti should not be good for a long time. Baldi announced a cracking train party on the way home from Munich to Berlin.

Bayern weakened after XXL season

Bayern was only a spectator at the celebrations. Coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team was noticeably exhausted after an XXL season with over 80 games – in the end four key players were missing, the bloodletting was just too big.

“We managed to have more fit players – I don’t know if that’s luck or not. Being able to reward yourself is a great thing,” said Alba’s point guard Maodo Lo. The title feels “insane,” Lo described. Bayern President Herbert Hainer comforted the Munich pros after the game and before the ceremony that followed. The duel between Alba and Bayern should continue next season.
