“Twelve place in the table didn’t make anyone happy in Wolfsburg. In recent years there have been Champions League and Europa League here. That’s what the club would like. That’s what we want,” said the new coach at his presentation in the Volkswagen Arena. “Titles are the best thing you can get. It’s not easy in the Bundesliga. But we want to attack, we want to play and be successful.”

The Wolfsburg have signed the former coach of Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich to succeed Florian Kohfeldt and given him a three-year contract. According to Kovac, he also decided to join the club because of the working conditions and the support from the Volkswagen Group. “VfL is definitely in the top five in the Bundesliga as far as everything else is concerned,” he said. He also appreciates the sports director Jörg Schmadtke since we played together in Leverkusen. “I had the feeling: I’m needed here, I’m welcome here,” said Kovac. At VfL he “also has a say”.
