Unterhaus starts with a new 1b league

After the season is before the season: Yesterday, Upper Austria’s football association divided the leagues for the 2022/23 season in the lower house after the relegation games played. This also includes a completely new class: the 2nd class 1b.

Because it will also be possible for state league clubs to place a 1b from the coming season, almost all clubs in the state league west have taken advantage of this opportunity. “It didn’t look like it at first, but then there was a relative run on the 1b teams,” says Stefan Hochreiter, chairman of the gaming operations committee.

Explanation: Until last season, reserve championships were held in the state leagues – from the coming season the clubs have the choice of fielding a reserve or a 1b team in the 2nd class. Because the majority of the West teams had opted for a 1b team, a reserve league for the other teams with very few games would have made little sense. Hochreiter: “So we suggested to the clubs concerned a 2nd class with almost pure 1b teams from the Landesliga West. The 1b team can play before the combat team games as usual, at the end of the season there is a promoted team. It’s an interim solution that all clubs can live with.”

The starting signal for the coming lower house season is also new: In order to avoid possible corona problems towards the end of the autumn season, the new season will start on the weekend around August 5th/6th/7th. August kicked off.
