The Haaland roller rolls over Eintracht Frankfurt

Erling Haaland has recovered well in the first game of the new Bundesliga season. With two goals and three assists, the Norwegian was the guarantor of BVB’s victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Preparer, driver and goalscorer – the outstanding attacker Erling Haaland gave the new coach Marco Rose a spectacular Bundesliga debut at Borussia Dortmund. Together with the no less brilliant Marco Reus, the Norwegian led the Revierclub to the deserved 5: 2 (3: 1) over Eintracht Frankfurt. Haaland’s quota was outstanding: With two goals and three preparations, he was directly involved in all BVB goals: The goal scorers were Reus (23rd minute), Thorgan Hazard (32nd), finally Haaland (34th / 70th) and Giovanni Reyna (58th) in front of 25,000 spectators.

In contrast, the false start is perfect for Eintracht after leaving the DFB Cup a week ago at SV Waldhof Mannheim (0: 2). The interim 1: 1 equalization through Felix Passlack’s own goal (27th) and the late hit from newcomer Jens Petter Hauge (86th) could not change that.

No chance for Eintracht Frankfurt

With the success over Eintracht, Borussia built on the splendid final spurt of the previous season. Thanks to a performance with a lot of passion and speed, the eighth win in a row across the seasons was achieved and thus a similarly strong series as in the championship season 2011/12. In contrast to the beginning of April, when BVB suffered their last defeat to date in the 1: 2 at the same place against Frankfurt, the Hessians had no chance this time.

Although Borussia had to do without numerous well-known professionals such as Mats Hummels, Emre Can, Thomas Meunier and Julian Brandt, they took over the direction from the start. Inspired by the loud and long-missing support of the fans, the Rose team created their first chances through Haaland (8th) and Reyna (17th).

Above all, the intensive pressing prescribed by Rose caused enormous problems for Eintracht. An example of this was the creation of the Dortmund tour. After Jude Bellingham and Thorgan Hazard won the ball together, Haaland initiated a counterattack, which Reus successfully completed with a low shot from ten meters. But above all, Haaland’s long, inimitable sprint through midfield was a great show.

100th goal for Reus

For Reus it was the 100th Bundesliga club for BVB. Only Manfred Burgsmüller, Michael Zorc, Lothar Emmerich and Stephane Chapuisat had cracked this mark before. In addition, he recommended himself to grandstand guest Hansi Flick for an early return to the German national team.

But the joy of the Dortmund team, who had been superior until then, only lasted four minutes. An own goal by Felix Passlack out of nowhere briefly brought Eintracht back into play. The full-back pushed the ball into his own net when attempting to clear it at the edge of the penalty area.

This setback could not stop Dortmund’s vigor. Before the break, they hit back twice as ice-cold – and both times Haaland was involved. At 2-1 through Hazard the Norwegian did the preparatory work, at 3-1 he scored after winning the ball against Stefan Islanker himself from twelve meters. Again, the Norwegian had marched unstoppably through the midfield.

After the break, Eintracht was on for a while

After the break, BVB first shifted down a gear. The guests used this to intensify their attacking game. Only a brilliant parade of the new BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with a header from Maury Borré (47th) prevented the Frankfurt goal.

But at the latest with the 4: 1 by Reyna from close range after further preparatory work by Haaland, the game was decided. The great show of the two exceptional talent in Dortmund attack was rounded off by the 5: 1 when Reus Haaland served exemplary and the Norwegian turned the stadium into a madhouse with his 62nd goal in the 61st competitive game for BVB.
