Legislators from Buenos Aires ask the AFA to grant River the Eva Perón Cup, established in 1952

As explained by the legislator, in accordance with the provision of the AFA, “This cup would be awarded to the club that managed to win three leagues consecutively or five alternately”for which he highlighted that “In the 1950s, River won the tournaments of 1952 and 1953 and the triple championship, 1955, 1956 and 1957”.

He added that “After (Juan Domingo) Perón was overthrown in 1955, decree-law 4161 of March 5, 1956 established that everything bearing the surname Perón should be prohibited and erased from Argentine history,” reason why -he considered- “River was never able to incorporate this cup into its display cases.”

“The resolution of the AFA was never repealed and therefore the restitution of this trophy is the power of River, as a way to repair our memory in sport and in society, as well as being a tribute to Eva Perón, a tireless fighter for the growth of the sportremarked the former Secretary of Sports of the Nation.

Lastly, he added that “This project is part of the need for any reprehensible action carried out during dictatorships to be repaired in democracy.”
