The Athletics World Championships in Eugene at the end of July are already casting their shadows at the outdoor state championships today and on Sunday in St. Pölten.
Susanne Walli from Linz made a big step towards America in the 400-meter competition last weekend at the Balkan Championships by defending her title. The Olympic semi-finalist is currently ranked 45th out of 48 in the World Cup rankings. A win in a fast time should finally secure her ticket, with the qualifying period ending this Sunday.
It is almost certain that discus ace Lukas Weißhaidinger will win his seventh championship title in this discipline. For the Innviertler, the title fights are another important form check before the highlight of the season.
Ivona Dadic, who completed six disciplines in Craiova (Romania) last weekend, competes in the 100 meter hurdles, shot put and 4×100 meter relay in St. Pölten. Her colleague Verena Mayr has been struggling with health problems since the games in Tokyo last year and is already concentrating on the European Championships in Munich in August. At the state championships, she is not yet involved in the action.
