Stanley Cup Finals: No early NHL championship for Colorado Avalanche

Nico Sturm and the Colorado Avalanche still have to wait for the NHL title. Will the decision fall in the sixth game?

The Tampa Bay Lightning rebounded for the Stanley Cup in the NHL finals series.

The champions of the past two years won the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 (1-0, 1-1, 1-1) and reduced the series to 2-3. Colorado with the German attacker Nico Sturm is still missing a victory for the title.

Ondrej Palat scored the winning goal in the fifth game with just over six minutes remaining. His shot slipped unhappily between the legs of Avalanche goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper. On the other side, star goalkeeper Andrej Wassilewski again showed a strong performance and parried 35 shots on goal of the Lightning. Storm was on the ice for a little over six minutes for the Avalanche. He could be the fifth German to win the Stanley Cup.

The Denver-based team has never lost a Finals series and is aiming for its third championship after 1996 and 2001. After the 2020 and 2021 championships, the Lightning are in the finals for the third time in a row and are still hoping for their fourth title overall. The sixth game will take place on Sunday night (2:00 a.m. CEST) in Tampa.
