The German soccer women are in EM form. Attacking player Bühl stood out in the last endurance test before the tournament and, with three goals, is recommended for a key role in the DFB team.
Klara Bühl was in a great mood when she returned to the preparatory camp in Herzogenaurach with the German women’s soccer team after the successful dress rehearsal for the European Championship.
The hat-trick in the 7-0 (2-0) win against Switzerland the night before in Erfurt increased the anticipation of the 21-year-old attacking player for the European Championship from July 6th to 31st in England. “I’m happy to be able to help the team like that. And of course it’s good for me too and gives me confidence,” said Bühl, adding: “The team has also shown the qualities and potential it has. We are on the right path. If we continue, I’m not worried that we’ll play a great tournament.”
With a strong performance in her 24th international match, the offensive player from German runners-up FC Bayern Munich emphatically recommended herself for a leading role at the EURO, where the DFB selection meets Denmark, Spain and Finland in the preliminary round. “The trainer knows what strengths and weaknesses I have and what I can give the team,” emphasized Bühl. “She has matured and now wants to take on more responsibility. She does that on and off the pitch,” praised national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.
That wasn’t always the case lately. After Bühl drew international attention to herself for the first time at the 2019 World Cup, things had calmed down for her. Many minor and major injuries kept throwing her back, and there were also initial difficulties after her move from SC Freiburg to FC Bayern in the summer of 2020. “I think Klara now has the freshness she hasn’t had for a while,” said Voss- Tecklenburg. “She has worked a lot on herself, feels good, healthy and stable.”
With neuro-centered training to success
An important building block is Bühl’s collaboration with Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker in the field of neuro-centered training. The main focus is on optimizing movement processes and body awareness. “I work with him almost every day, which helps me a lot,” said Bühl. “It’s about getting to know your own body in a different way. As a competitive athlete, this is extremely important. I’m glad I’m fit. He contributes a lot.”
In the current state, Bühl should be on the left flank. From the point of view of the national coach, it is even more important that the entire team is in a good mood. “We have a very balanced squad and are well positioned for the European Championship,” said Voss-Tecklenburg and expressed his wish for the start of the finals on July 8: “Hopefully we’ll take a lot of the good things that we’ve seen into the European Championship. The game against Denmark will be the key for the tournament.”
