Colorado Avalanche has won the Stanley Cup for the third time in club history and for the first time in 21 years. The team from Denver prevailed 2-1 (0-1, 2-0, 0-0) against defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in the sixth game of the National Hockey League (NHL) final series on Sunday evening and took the decisive fourth win.
Colorado went into the final series as a favorite. The team from “Mile High” missed the first match puck in their own arena on Friday with a 2:3 defeat. You saved yourself the thrill of an all-important seventh final game. “It was heartbreaking not winning it in Denver. It was tough after the game but we came back,” said Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon.
The Conn Smythe trophy for Most Valuable Player of the Playoffs went to 23-year-old defenseman Cale Makar. The Avalanche also maintained their 100% haul through success — every time the team made it to the finals, they ended up winning the Stanley Cup: 1996, 2001, and 2022.
Club owner Stan Kroenke only celebrated his Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl title in American football in February.
