Today at 2.15 p.m. Austria’s national women’s soccer team takes off from Vienna-Schwechat to tackle the “European Championship 2022 in England” mission. Landing in London-Gatwick is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. (local time), followed by a one-hour bus ride to the Pennyhill Park hotel base camp near Bagshot, where England’s men prepared for the European Championship final last year.

The ÖFB entourage initially consists of 55 people, including 25 players and 30 supervisors. Among them are the Upper Austrians Laura Wienroither (“Maybe I’ll get a lucky charm from home”), Lisa Kolb and backup midfield director Annabel Schasching as well as ÖFB team manager Isabel Hochstöger.

return to the adopted country

“I’m not excited yet, the anticipation is overwhelming. But when it comes to the games, the nervousness will definitely be there. But that’s the way it should be,” says Wienroither, who is returning to her adopted country. The 23-year-old is currently under contract with WFC Arsenal in London. On the three days off after the 1-0 friendly win in Belgium, the full-back recharged her “batteries” at home in Frankenburg.

The EURO begins on Wednesday in Manchester against England, the other group opponents are Northern Ireland and Norway.
