FC Schalke: Ko Itakura apparently comes from Manchester City

The miners apparently add to the defensive center and grab a defender from England’s champions Man City on loan.

Second division FC Schalke 04 is apparently about to sign the Japanese national player Ko Itakura. The central defender should according to Sky move from Premier League champions Manchester City to Gelsenkirchen.

Itakura will travel to Germany on Wednesday, do his medical check at Schalke and then sign his working paper. The 24-year-old, it is said, is to be loaned out for a year. Then the miners would have the opportunity to bind him permanently with an option to buy. This should be around four million euros.

FC Schalke: City defender Itakura played in Groningen

Itakura has been under contract with Man City since January 2019. At that time he moved from Kawasaki Frontale to England for 1.1 million euros. On loan, he went straight to FC Groningen, where he spent the past two and a half years.

The five-time national player recently took part in the Tokyo Olympics with Japan’s U23s. The Scottish top club Celtic Glasgow has also been linked with Itakura in recent weeks.
