Yves Lampaert wears the first yellow jersey of the 109th Tour de France. The Belgian surprisingly won the rainy opening time trial in Copenhagen with a lead of five seconds over compatriot and top favorite Wout van Aert.
Defending champion Tadej Pogacar was seven seconds slower than Lampaert after 13.2 kilometers and finished third. Lennard Kämna was the best German professional cyclist, 19th with a 25-second slower ride than Lampaert.
The advantage that Pogacar gained over his competitors for overall victory should be much more important than his third place. His biggest opponent Primoz Roglic is nine seconds behind, last year’s second Jonas Vingegaard one second behind. Alexander Vlasov, captain of the German team Bora-hansgrohe, was 24 seconds slower than Pogacar.
