Xaver Schlager is one of those players who know exactly what they want. It all began at the age of 12, when he switched from SC St. Valentin to the youth team of RB Salzburg in 2009 and in the following ten years he went through all youth stations up to the first team. He had celebrated four championship titles with Red Bull Salzburg when the call came from the German Bundesliga in 2019. He last played for VfL Wolfsburg for three years. The move to RB Leipzig was made possible this year because Schlager has always included an exit clause in his contracts. RB Leipzig is said to have paid around 13 million euros for the transfer in order to have the axis with Xaver Schlager and Konrad Laimer (if he does not leave the club himself) available, which also triggers jubilation in the Austrian national team.
