Portugal finished with 12 medals in four events at the European Youth Paralympic Games, held in Pajulahti, Finland, where they were represented by 25 athletes.
In athletics, Gabriel Covas won two silver medals in the 100m and 400m T11 (visual impairment) and in wheelchair basketball the bronze went to the Portuguese team.
In bocce, Francisco Gouveia won the gold medal in the BC1 class, David Araujo and Catarina Monteiro won the gold and bronze medals respectively in the BC2 class, and in the BC3 class Alice Moreira and Luis Costa contributed to the “medalists” with gold each. In the collective competition, the BC1/BC2 teams and the BC3 pair also won gold medals.
In swimming, Thomas Cordeiro won gold in the 400m freestyle and 200m SM10 styles.
At the European Youth Paralympic Games, which took place from July 27 to Sunday and brought together over 500 athletes from 29 countries, Portugal was also represented in table tennis.
