Portugal’s João Paliña will play next season at Fulham, signing a five-year contract with the team led by Marco Silva, announced this Monday the badge that has returned to the English football league.
“The club is delighted to confirm the signing of João Paligny from Sporting Clube de Portugal for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old Portuguese footballer signed a five-year contract with an option to extend for another 12 months. leave him at Craven Cottage until at least the summer of 2027,” the Fulham website says.
The 26-year-old midfielder will have his first experience outside of Portuguese football as he has always been linked to Sporting CP since inception, although he has added a few credits to other I Liga badges.
“I am very happy to be here. This is a great opportunity for me and for my career to play in the best league in the world in my opinion. I signed a contract with a big club. I chose the club. I promise the fans that I will do my best, and I hope that this season we will be able to win a lot,” said the player, whose words are quoted by the summer residents.
Paligna has been in the spotlight for the past two years with Rubén Amorim, but before that he represented Sporting de Braga, Moreirense and Belenenses, always borrowed with the Alvalade badge.
The defensive midfielder’s good performances earned him a call-up to the national team as he attended the Euro 2020 final. In total, Paligna played 14 games for Portugal and scored two goals.
Paligna and Marco Silva crossed paths in the past at Sporting CP in 2014/15, but the midfielder was always used in the Lions B-team that season.
In London, the Portuguese will face Ivan Cavalheiro, although the question of the succession of the winger at the club is still unknown.
Last season, under the leadership of Marco Silva, Fulham returned to the Premier League and even won the championship.
