NHL: Detroit catches Kasper

The 18-year-old forward was drafted number eight in the NHL draft at the Bell Center in Montreal.

Kasper is only the fourth Austrian first-round draft. Only Thomas Vanek, who was picked as the number five pick by the Buffalo Sabers in 2003, was drafted higher. Marco Rossi 2020 (No. 9, Minnesota Wild) and Michael Grabner 2006 (No. 14, Vancouver Canucks) came a little later.

Vinzenz Rohrer from Feldkirch was brought in yesterday by the Montreal Canadiens.

On September 3rd and 4th, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz follow the invitation of ex-head coach Tom Rowe to the BMW Cup in Nuremberg. Top-class opponents are waiting there with HC Karlovy Vary from the Czech Extraliga, the Vienna Capitals and the hosting Nürnberg Ice Tigers.
