The new national coach had numerous offers after his permanent departure from Munich. He is now satisfied with his choice.
National coach Hansi Flick would obviously have been able to accept an offer from a club team or other national teams after leaving Bayern Munich. The 56-year-old revealed this in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The new national coach was even in contact with a club several times. “I had two zoom calls with a very large club, directly with the president, that was extremely exciting. The interaction with one another was totally respectful, my athletic skills would have been outstanding,” said Flick. He left it open which club it was.
DFB job for Hansi Flick “unique opportunity”
Furthermore, there were also inquiries from some national teams, but the decision ultimately fell on the DFB. The job as national coach was a “unique opportunity” for Flick.
DFB director Oliver Bierhoff, whom Flick knows very well from his time as Löw assistant and later as DFB sports director, “naturally heard the other inquiries and put a little pressure on,” said Flick. He doesn’t regret the decision. “The decision feels really good and right.”
Many people would also have congratulated him on this step. “My phone exploded,” said Flick about the day the contract was signed. “I had 600 messages in one day. Completely crazy. That was twice as many as after winning the Champions League.”
