HC Linz AG returns to the European Cup

As a semi-final loser against the later HLA champion Hard, it just wasn’t enough, today the sensational season was subsequently rewarded by the European Handball Association: The team around captain Maximilian Hermann received a starting place in the EHF Cup.

Because not all nations used their contingent, Austria’s association applied to the remaining place exchange and was awarded the contract. “We are very happy,” said sports director Klemens Kainmüller. “The team deserves this after the very good last season and it’s an important and valuable experience, especially for the young players.”

HC Linz AG last played on the European stage in 2010 after a seven-year break. Against Slovan Ljubljana it was the last stop in the Challenge Cup. At that time, Alexander Hermann was on the floor, returning in time for the unexpected European Cup comeback from Gummersbach.

The first round, in which the second semi-final loser Margareten is seeded in contrast to HC Linz AG, will be drawn on Tuesday in Vienna. The first leg takes place on 10./11. September, the return match a week later. A long journey is imminent: the possible opponents are at home from Iceland to Israel.
