According to the published diploma, changes to the IRS withholding tables aimed at increasing civil service wages will apply to income paid from July 1st.
“Amendments have been approved to the euro withholding tables that are effective in 2022 for income from dependent work paid or available from 1 July 2022,” reads the order of the Secretary of State for Tax Affairs, which was published in the annex to the Diário da República Tuesday at the end of the day.
The purpose of this new change to the retention tables is to prevent civil servants from moving from the General Career of Technical Assistant, who are eligible for the €47.55 start-up remuneration increase, to the next level of retention and receive a net monthly cost. income below what they received before the increase.
To do this, the table works in two ways: on the one hand, it increases the retention limit from the current 754 to 760 euros, and on the other hand, it reduces the monthly retention rate.
For example: a person with a monthly salary of 757 euros has so far deducted 59 euros (because the rate of 7.9% was applied to them). As of this month, the withholding tax on this type of wage is reduced to 37 euros.
Within this range, rates for single or married couples with dependents are also adjusted for the aforementioned increase in remuneration.
A draft decree-law providing for such an increase in remuneration will be considered by the Council of Ministers this Thursday, Secretary of State for Public Administration Ines Ramirez said today at the end of an additional round of negotiations at the request of the union.
The government proposal also provides for an increase in the starting salary of senior technicians by 52 euros to 1,059.59 euros (trainees) and 1,268.04 euros (graduates), in addition to an increase of about 400 euros for doctoral students to 1,632,82 euros.
