After eight years, an era at FC Bayern is coming to an end. Robert Lewandowski will miss the team presentation and the trip to the USA. There is much to be said for a move to FC Barcelona.
On Friday morning Robert Lewandowski showed up for training, just like in the days before. There has recently been much speculation as to whether the striker might go on strike at FC Barcelona or refuse to train. None of that was the case, Lewandowski is a professional who doesn’t need such games. But maybe he already knew that an agreement between Bayern and FC Barcelona in transfer poker was on the horizon.
The unit in the morning could actually have been his last on Säbener Straße. According to information from the sports portal “Sportbuzzer”, Lewandowski will not take part in the Munich team presentation this Saturday in the Allianz Arena. The top scorer is also not on the week-long trip to the USA, which the German soccer champions are starting on Monday. The Internet portal referred to its own information. FC Bayern initially did not comment.
According to media reports, Lewandowski’s dream club FC Barcelona submitted a final, fourth offer on Friday, which the Bayern bosses found acceptable. Recently it was said that the Munich club management, which has so far categorically insisted on its “Basta” and the fulfillment of the contract, is ready to rethink an offer of 50 million euros plus bonuses. According to Spanish media, the Catalans are confident of completing the transfer later this week.
At Gnabry, everything points to a contract extension
Lewandowski had previously taken part in team training on Säbener Straße for the third day in a row after his summer vacation on Friday morning. For the Polish national player it could have been the last training session together with the Munich colleagues.
Meanwhile, everything points to attacker Serge Gnabry staying in Munich. As several media reported on Friday, the lightning-fast winger could sign his new contract in the next few days. According to “Bild”, the 27-year-old national player will extend his contract, which expires in summer 2023, by four years.
Everyone else stays
There has been a lot of speculation recently about the future of the Munich offensive player. Does Gnabry extend or not? Does he even leave Bayern early? While crowd favorite Thomas Müller and national keeper Manuel Neuer extended their contracts without much background noise, talks between Munich and Gnabry kept faltering. Different salary expectations were mentioned as a sticking point. The lack of appreciation from the German record champions, from his point of view, should also have been a reason for Gnabry to consider a change.
As one of the most hopeful young German footballers, Gnabry was brought to Munich from Bremen in the summer of 2017 after winning the U21 European Championship. Since then he has won the Bundesliga four times with Bayern, the DFB Cup twice and the Champions League in 2020. The 27-year-old scored 64 goals in 171 competitive games for FCB.
