Five goals in 19 minutes – Paderborn writes second division history

Everything pointed to a zero number in Paderborn’s home deluxe arena. Then followed 19 minutes, which will not only have a permanent place in the club’s history. They also set a new record in the single-track second division

Man, is this boring. That’s what many of the 9,399 spectators in the Paderborn stadium said at half-time. The local SC simply couldn’t find a way against Karlsruher SC at the start of the new season in the 2nd division. Nothing, absolutely nothing on Sunday afternoon indicated that it would be a memorable game. The Paderborn team didn’t think of anything that would come next either.

But then came the 56th minute. The Karlsruhers made a foul in their own penalty area. Muslija didn’t miss the chance. And then it happened in quick succession:

  • 65 minutes: 2-0 Leipertz
  • 68 minutes: 3-0 Justvan
  • 72 minutes: 4-0 plate
  • 75 minutes: 5-0 Conteh

A total of five goals in less than 20 minutes and there could have been even more goals. The Paderborn didn’t even know what happened to them, and the Karlsruhers didn’t even know. In the end, it was a game for the history books. Not only because the victory came in such a short time, but above all because it was the highest opening win since the 2nd Bundesliga was single track. And it has been since 1981 – only interrupted by the post-reunion season. Paderborn naturally shot to the top of the first season table of the 2nd division.

HSV starts the mission of promotion with an away win

In the shadow of this special game, top favorite Hamburger SV made their way back to the Bundesliga and won 2-0 at newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig. 1.FC Heidenheim also got their first away win with a 1-0 win at Hansa Rostock.
