Portugal lost this Sunday at the UEFA Women’s European Football Championship, losing 5-0 to Sweden, in a game where set pieces proved to be decisive.
Against a powerful opponent, number one in the European rankings, Portugal even fought well, despite an uneven result. Manager Francisco Neto expressed concerns about dead balls and despite finding a problem, this is where Portugal fell short. Four of the five goals conceded were scored with the ball … a standard game. Philippa Angeldal (21 and 45), Carole Costa (45’+7, sk), Kosovare Aslani (54′, zp) and Stina Blackstenius (90’+1) scored by the Swedes, which allowed them to take 1st place in a group. C, with the same seven points as the Netherlands.
In addition to a heavy defeat and elimination from the tournament, which takes place in England, in Portugal, Katarina Amado also left the field on a stretcher and in tears (34 minutes).
