Portuguese driver António Felix da Costa (DS Techeetah) won the second race of the weekend in the Formula E World Championship held in New York this Sunday.
The Cascais native, who took pole position this round 12 of the season, crossed the line 0.929 seconds ahead of Belgian Stoffel Vandorn (Mercedes) and 3.524 seconds ahead of New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar) in third place.
“It’s amazing to win here where I was second and third, especially considering where we came from, but I love to fight and work to improve, to show everyone they’re wrong. It’s amazing to win again. Thanks everyone. which gave us a “fan-like boost” in all races,” said the Portuguese rider at the end of the race.
It was the first victory of the season for the Portuguese driver, the seventh of his Formula E career, now in its eighth season.
Felix da Costa had to fend off Vandoorne’s attacks in the final part of the race, but the decisive factor in this battle was the use of the “fan boost” that the fans gave to some riders.
Racer DS Techeetah finished the race with little to no power from his electric car.
“I had to fight a lot. I had little information about how we have energy. I was ready to fight. With 10 laps to go I saw that I could keep him behind me,” he explained.
This Sunday, Vandorn became the leader of the championship with 155 points, while Félix da Costa moved up to sixth place with 103 points.
Among the constructors, Mercedes is in the lead with 238 points, while the Portuguese driver team DS Techeetah is in second place with 228 points.
The next round will take place in London on 30 and 31 July.
