Rape scene could cost TVI 150,000 euros

A rape scene in the soap opera “Valor da Vida”, which aired on TVI in 2019, could cost a station between 20,000 and 150,000 euros after the Media Regulatory Authority (ERC) decided to initiate administrative offense proceedings for violating the provision article 27, paragraph 4, of the Law on Television and Audiovisual Services on Demand.

However, the regulator, based on the need to ensure the protection of the most sensitive audiences, such as minors, understood that “the content present in the analyzed episode may have a negative impact on the formation of the personality of children and adolescents” and confirmed that the episode was shown “between 21:40 and 10:30 p.m., on Saturday, without a permanent broadcast of the corresponding visual identifier.”
