CMVM fined “chicken king” and American investor

The Securities Market Commission (CMVM) imposed fines of €75,000 each on North American investor John Textor and businessman José António dos Santos, known as the “King of the Chickens” (and great friend of Luis Filipe). Vieira, former president of Benfica), for violating the obligation to inform the market. We are talking about agreements concluded between Textor and the President of Grupo Valoro for the purchase by the former of a 25% stake in the capital of SAD do Benfica.

According to CMVM, José António dos Santos “has entered into various debt agreements for the purchase and sale of shares in the aforementioned company with shares admitted to trading on a regulated market, in which more than 20% of the rights corresponding to its authorized capital.” These agreements, which in practice corresponded to an increase in qualifying ownership, were not communicated to either Benfica SAD or CMVM by the due date.

Likewise, and also in 2021, John Textor signed the Benfica SAD share purchase agreements with Rei dos Frangos, “as a result of which he became responsible for 25% of the voting rights corresponding to the capital of this society.” Textor did not report this action to CMVM or Benfica SAD during a four-day negotiation period, for which he was also fined 75,000 euros.
