The EU ordered to reduce gas consumption

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday asked member states to reduce gas consumption by 15% by March as a preventive measure in the face of a possible reduction or even complete cessation of Russian gas supplies to Europe.

“Russia is blackmailing Europe. Russia uses energy as a weapon. Therefore, Europe must be ready for any development of events, whether it be a partial, significant or even complete cessation of Russian gas supplies,” the head of the European Commission warned. While this measure is voluntary, Brussels admits that it will make it mandatory if the situation worsens.

Russian gas supplies to Europe via the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline have been halted for more than a week due to repairs and are due to resume this Thursday, but Brussels fears that Russia will come up with some excuse to delay its commissioning or reduce the amount sent gas. This Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin complained about the alleged delay in the return of a turbine being repaired in Canada and acknowledged that work may have to be suspended.

Erdogan left Putin “hanging”
Turkish PR man Tayyip Erdogan left Vladimir Putin on camera for almost a minute ahead of a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday. The footage shows that the Russian leader cannot hide his discomfort and makes faces in anticipation. This would be Erdogan’s revenge for Putin making him wait two minutes in 2020.
