Martin Hinteregger is a man of clear words. Now the Austrian spoke about alcohol problems among football professionals.
Defender Martin Hinteregger from Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt gives insights into professional business and has now revealed in a talk show that many players suffer from alcohol problems.
Hinteregger said in the TV show “Sport and Talk from Hangar 7” ServusTV: “The more money you have, the more worries, the more restless you have and the more unhappy you become. In a difficult time, however, you can slip into a phase in which you are extremely bad and you have to seek help. “
Hinteregger continued and revealed: “A lot of professional footballers have become alcoholics or have completely crashed. Probably a third. That’s a terrifying number because nobody talks about it during their careers.”
Hinteregger: “I’m not an alcoholic. I just like to party”
Hinteregger himself also attracted attention through excessive alcohol, but does not see himself as an alcoholic. He said more often on the subject: “I’m not an alcoholic. I just like to party.”
The reason for appearing on the Austrian talk show was the promotion of his book “Inner View”, in which the EM driver writes, among other things, about gambling addiction and depression, from which he himself suffered.
