Four Porto players suspended for chanting against Benfica

Porto players Diogo Costa, Wilson Manafa, Fabio Cardoso and Otavio were sentenced on Monday by the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) to suspension for chanting at Benfica.

According to CD’s statement, in respect of several permitted disciplinary proceedings, the case was referred to the Instructors’ Committee of the Portuguese Professional Football League due to “possible defamation, injuries and defamation of reputation”.

In addition to the suspension, various players were sentenced to fines, with the Blue and White club also paying €15,300 for the disciplinary offence.

We are talking about the blue-and-white chant after the victory at the Estadio da Luz (1:0) on May 7, which secured the national football title of the previous season, during the gathering of players published on social networks.

After consideration of the case by the Instructor’s Commission, the case returned to the FPF SD, which presented an indictment proposal for a disciplinary hearing, from which the defendants asked to be released.
