Defense attorney Benjamin Mendy has been suspended from his Manchester City club on rape allegations.
Premier League club Manchester City has suspended Benjamin Mendy after allegations of rape against the 27-year-old. The club confirmed this in an official statement.
The alleged crimes, including Mendy is accused of quadruple rape and sexual assault, are said to have been committed between October 2020 and August 2021. The Cheshire Constabulary Police have brought charges against the defense attorney as a result. Mendy is currently in custody.
The police’s statement went on to say that the allegations against the 27-year-old relate to three different complainants.
In a statement, Cheshire Constabulary Police said: “The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorized Cheshire Police Department to indict a man on allegations of sexual assault. Benjamin Mendy, age 27, is on charges of quadruple rape and has been charged with one-time sexual assault. “
Mendy came to City from Monaco in July 2017 for a transfer fee of around 60 million euros. The left-back struggled with injuries during his time at the club and only made 75 appearances in just over four seasons.
He was part of the French squad that won the 2018 World Cup. This season he started the Community Shield against Leicester City and the Premier League opening game against Tottenham.
