Already in the complement Yamila Rodríguez achieved the tie at 33m, Flor Bon Segundo turned the result around with a beautiful free kick at 45m and Rodríguez again, in stoppage time, sealed the albiceleste victory and gave him the ticket to the Copa del World.
Paraguay, for its part, will have another chance in a playoff, the same as Chile, which yesterday had beaten Venezuela and took fifth place in the Cup.
The match between Argentina and Paraguay (both had already guaranteed qualification for the Pan American Games in Chile), was played at the Centenario stadium in Armenia, and was arbitrated by the local María Victoria Daza Ortiz.
Victory was not easy for Germán Portanova’s team, who had just lost in the semifinals against the Colombian national team. First, because he had to present an unprecedented defense (Aldana Cometti was isolated in Bucaramanga, infected with Covid-19; and Gabriela Chávez was expelled and served her suspension); and later, because she had a hard time finding the best game of hers.
Although in general lines he was always superior to Paraguay and reached the Bobadilla goal with danger, in the last line he again showed doubts (accentuated by the entry of usual substitutes) and thus he was at a disadvantage in the initial stage with a goal of Núñez, against, at the exit of a corner.
In the second half, things seemed the same, until Yamila Rodríguez appeared and her great moment. After a long serve “combed” by Jaimes, the scorer escaped her mark, faced the goalkeeper and beat her to establish the tie.
The 1 to 1 seemed immovable. But Flor Bon Segundo took charge of a free kick on the edge of the area and with a great right foot to the post by Bobadilla gave Argentina the advantage over the hour.
Paraguay went with everything in search of a draw and Portanova’s team took the opportunity to liquidate it in a counterattack, again with the scoring ability of Rodríguez; he put the bow on the night and the girls celebrated qualifying for the World Cup.
Tomorrow the final will be played by Brazil and Colombia, who also already have the ticket to Australia-New Zealand 2023 in their pocket.
